John John Burger öppnade 2017 i Argentinas huvudstad Buenos Aires, och har idag två restauranger. Vi besökte enheten i stadsdelen Palermo, och restaurangen var något avskalad men samtidigt utstrålade en hipp känsla. Menyn var lång och lite krånglig att förstå sig på, men till slut beställde vi två olika burgare. Det blev en Royale With Cheese med två 110-gramsköttpuckar, fyra skivor ost, tärnad lök, senap och ketchup i ett i ett potato roll-bröd för 12 900 ARS (135 kronor). På rekommendation av servitören lade vi även till pickles på burgaren. Vi beställde även en Patty Melt med dubbla 100-gramsköttpuckar, fem skivor ost, karamelliserad lök och majonnäs i rostbröd för 17 600 ARS (180 kronor). Pommes frites ingick i priset för båda dessa burgare.
Köttet på burgarna var välsmashat med en tydlig och härlig crust, och köttpuckarna lyckades dessutom bevara en saftig och lätt rosa kärna – det bästa av båda världar! Osten var perfekt smält och bidrog med mycket krämighet. Brödet i Royale With Cheese var ett klassiskt potato roll som hittade en riktigt fin balans med de övriga ingredienserna, men hälen blev något för blöt framåt slutet av måltiden. Vi gillade samspelet mellan senapen och ketchup där inga av såserna tog överhanden, och valet att lägga till pickles var klockrent. De borde dock ha ingått som standard, och hade faktiskt kunnat smaka ännu mer. Patty Melten var smörig och maffig, men hade mått bra av lite syra för att fräscha upp – en klick gul senap eller några pickles även här hade till exempel gjort stor skillnad. Pommes fritesen var krispiga med en trevlig sälta, och ett trevligt tillbehör.
John John Burger serverar riktigt moderna smashburgare med en välsmakande och välbalanserad smakbild. Vi rekommenderar definitivt ett besök nästa gång du är i Buenos Aires.

John John Burger opened in 2017 in Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires, and currently have two restaurants. We visited the location in the Palermo neighborhood, and the store was somewhat scaled back but still had a hip feel to it. Their menu was long and a bit complicated, but in the end we ordered two different burgers; A Royale With Cheese with two 110-gram beef patties, four slices of cheese, diced onions, ketchup and mustard in a potato roll for 12,900 ARS (12 USD). The waiter also recommended pickles, so we added them as well. We also ordered a Patty Melt with double 100-gram beef patties, five slices of cheese, caramelized onions and mayo between two slices of toast for 17,600 ARS (16.5 USD). French fries were included in the price of both of these burgers.
The patties were well-smashed with a deep and delicious crust, and the meat also managed to retain a juicy and slightly pink core – the best of both worlds! The cheese was perfectly melted and added a lot of creaminess. The bun in the Royale With Cheese was a classic potato roll that struck a really nice balance with the other ingredients, but the heel got a little soggy towards the end of the meal. We liked the way the mustard and ketchup worked together, with neither sauce overpowering the other, and the choice to add pickles was spot on. However, they should have been included as standard, and could actually have been more intense. The patty melt was buttery and rich, but would have benefited from some acidity to freshen it up – a dab of yellow mustard or some pickles here would have made a big difference, for example. The fries were crispy with a nice saltiness, and a nice side dish.
John John Burger serve very modern smash burgers with a tasty and well-balanced flavor profile. We definitely recommend a visit next time you are in Buenos Aires.
