De öppnade i slutet av 2023, och sedan dess har vi fått regelbundna tips om att besöka dem. På menyn hittade vi sju olika burgare och några mackor, vilket gav en förklaring till deras namn. Vi beställde en dubbel Holy Cheese med ost, hackad lök, pickles, majonnäs, senap och ketchup och en dubbel Spicy Bacon Jam med ost, majonnäs och en baconsylt gjord på stekt lök, jalapeños och bacon. Båda dubbelburgarna innehöll två köttpuckar 100-gramköttpuckar och kostade 129 kronor styck, och i priset ingick dessutom pommes frites. Vi köpte även två dippsåser för 10 kronor vardera.
Burgarna serverades i lådor och såg riktigt snygga ut med rejäla mängder välsmält ost. Köttet var mört, men vi blev lite besvikna över att vår cheeseburgare hade mycket bättre crust än baconburgaren. Köttet var som tur var välkryddat och hade en riktigt god köttsmak. Brödet hade rostats litet grand, men det räckte inte riktigt för att stå emot köttsafterna. På grund av detta så blev både kronan och hälen genomblöta under måltidens gång. Cheeseburgaren hade en utmärkt smakbalans, och proportionerna var väl avvägda, men vi hade gärna sett lite fler krispiga texturer än löken för att göra den mindre mjuk. Baconsylten i vår Spicy Bacon Jam var utsökt med precis lagom sötma, hetta och sälta, men även den burgaren var lite för mjuk för sitt eget bästa. Pommes fritesen var välfriterade om än något översaltade, och här var vi väldigt nöjda med att ha beställt deras smakrika och prisvärda vitlöks- och chilidippar.
Holy Subs har satt smakerna, så nu hoppas vi bara att de finslipar menyn och jobbar mer med texturerna. Men de är redan nu ett självklart stopp nästa gång du befinner dig i närheten av Norrtälje.

Holy Subs is a food cart parked at the Vreta shopping centre, a few minutes’ drive east of Norrtälje. They opened at the end of 2023, and since then we have received regular recommendations to visit them. On their menu we found seven different burgers and some sandwiches, which gave an explanation for their name. We ordered a double Holy Cheese with cheese, chopped onions, pickles, mayo, ketchup and mustard and a double Spicy Bacon Jam with cheese, mayo and a bacon jam made with fried onions, jalapeños and bacon. Both double burgers contained two 100-gram beef patties and cost 129 (12.5 USD) each, and the price also included fries. We also bought two dipping sauces for 10 SEK (1 USD) each.
Our burgers came served in boxes and looked really nice with generous amounts of well-melted cheese. The patties were tender, but we were a little disappointed that our cheeseburger had a much nicer crust than the bacon burger. Fortunately, the meat was well seasoned and had a really nice beefy flavour. The bun had been toasted a bit, but it wasn’t quite enough to withstand the meat juices. Because of this, both the crown and the heel got soaked during the meal. The cheeseburger had an excellently balanced flavour, and the proportions were well thought out, but we would have liked to see a little more crunch than the onion to make it less soft. The bacon jam in our Spicy Bacon Jam was delicious with just the right amount of sweetness, heat and saltiness, but it was also a little too soft for its own good. The fries were well cooked if slightly oversalted, and here we were very pleased to have ordered their flavoursome and affordable garlic and chilli dips.
Holy Subs have nailed the flavours, so now we just hope they refine their menu and work more on the textures. But they are already well worth visiting the next time you find yourself near Norrtälje.
